    Products Details

Titanium rods are high-quality rods made from titanium sponge and other titanium alloys by melting, forging, rolling, drawing and other precision processes, which have excellent properties such as high strength, corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance.

GR5 is the optimal balance of strength, corrosion resistance and cost-effectiveness for 90% of high-end industrial needs.

    Product Advantages & Industry Applications

    1. High strength, low weight and excellent overall performance

Performance Indicator GR5 Titanium Alloy Comparative materials (steel/Al)
Tensile Strength 895-930 MPa Beyond 7075 aluminum alloy (572MPa)
Yield Strength 825-869 MPa Near high strength steels (e.g. AISI 4340)
Density 4.43 g/cm³ 43% lighter than steel and only 60% heavier than aluminum
    Specific strength (strength/density) 207 MPa·cm³/g 3.2 times more than 304 stainless steel

    Industrial application:

Significantly improves the energy efficiency ratio in scenarios where high loads are required with reduced weight (e.g. structural components for offshore equipment, drive shafts for racing cars).

    2. Corrosion resistance in extreme environments:

Seawater environment: annual corrosion rate <0.0015mm (1/10th of 316 stainless steel)
Chloride corrosion resistance: up to 10,000ppm (200ppm threshold for stainless steel)
Stress corrosion cracking (SCC) resistance: critical stress intensity factor ≥ 55 MPa-√m

    Applications:

Fasteners for offshore oil platforms, pressure resistant housings for deep sea probes, chemical valve stems.

    3. Stable performance at high temperatures: 400℃ still maintains high strength

Temp Retention of tensile strength Comparison of material attenuation
Room temperature (25°C) 100% reference value
    300°C ≥85% Aluminum alloy strength remaining <40%
400°C ≥70% 50% of the remaining strength of the Tung Titanium alloy

    Application:

High temperature components of geothermal energy equipment, components of automotive turbocharging systems.

    4. Friendly to process and enhance

    ● Formability:

Wide range of hot working temperatures (750-950°C), can be forged into complex shapes.
Cold workability up to 20% (annealed condition).

    ● Surface Hardness:

Anodised surface hardness up to HV800 (base material HV350).
Shot peening increases fatigue life by 3-5 times.

Titanium bars are widely used in industrial applications due to their excellent performance, and with the advancement of technology, the scope of application will continue to expand.

ProX Metal is committed to providing customers with high quality industrial titanium bar products and professional services, and looks forward to recommending the most suitable grades and specifications for your project, so as to effectively improve your equipment performance and reduce production costs.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the difference between Ti6Al4V (GR5) and Ti6Al4V Eli?
Ti6Al4V Eli (Extra Low Interstitials) has lower limits on interstitial elements like carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen compared to standard GR5. This reduction improves toughness, ductility, and fracture toughness, making Eli ideal for medical implants and extreme deep-sea environments.
How does the corrosion resistance of titanium rods compare to stainless steel?
Titanium rods exhibit superior corrosion resistance. In seawater, titanium's annual corrosion rate is less than 0.0015mm, which is 1/10th of 316 stainless steel. It can withstand chloride concentrations up to 10,000ppm, far exceeding the 200ppm threshold of stainless steel.
Can GR5 titanium alloy bars maintain strength at high temperatures?
Yes. GR5 titanium alloy retains ≥85% of its tensile strength at 300°C and ≥70% at 400°C. In comparison, aluminum alloys drop to less than 40% strength at 300°C, making titanium much more suitable for high-temperature geothermal and automotive applications.
What surface treatments can be applied to titanium rods?
Titanium rods can be anodized to increase surface hardness up to HV800 (compared to the base material hardness of HV350). Additionally, shot peening can be applied to increase fatigue life by 3 to 5 times.
